Conrad Nalson – A Local Success Story

Founder and owner of Furnishings by Conrad, Conrad Nalson, originally left his job as a car salesman at Umhlali BMW to work with a friend who manufactured wooden furniture. Conrad had studied marketing, but was always inspired by the love of timber and raw material and always wanted to do something artistic and work with his hands.

When the business he was working for closed, he decided to take it over and start Furnishings by Conrad. That was twenty years ago and, backed by twelve very experienced staff members, some of whom have been part of the team for 20 years, The business has grown from strength to strength.


He came into this business because he wanted to do something artistic and use his hands. Conrad possesses a formidable combination of a strong work ethic, artistic flair and a real pride in the finish of his products. He turns out original, practical “works of art”, passionately produced in his professional workshop.

Furnishings by Conrad specialises in custom made furniture to suit the lifestyle and needs of each of their clients. They work with all types of woods from Oak, Kiaat and Panga Panga to Walnut, Beech wood, Mahogany and more. Conrad has produced furniture in many different styles and often works with interior designers and architects.

Conrad has an excellent team working in the business. Saga Naicker has been with Conrad from the start, a valuable staff member and a master in his field. Conrad’s team is an integral part of his success.

With a lot of support from the locals, Conrad has grown the business significantly. He works with numerous interior designers and architects and has manufactured and designed furniture for beautiful homes in and around Ballito, Zimbali, Simbithi, some local restaurants and a few holiday resorts and game reserves.

He is also the proud designer and manufacturer of the Ballito Pro trophy!

Furnishings by Conrad’s factory is situated in Umhlali in the picturesque North Coast of KwaZulu Natal where he lives a rich life connected to the environment, with family, friends and surf featuring amongst those things that are important to him.
