A day after images of it were leaked online, Ferrari has confirmed its latest new model.
Called the 488 Pista, it’s a racier version of the 488 GTB and packs a ferocious 711bhp. That makes it the most potent V8 the Prancing Horse has ever produced for a car with indicators and number plates, and likely the loudest too.
The natural successor to the much-loved 458 Speciale, the 488 Pista – meaning ‘track’ in Italian – is so quick that it might actually beat the brand’s £1 million hypercar, the LaFerrari, in a sprint to 100kph.
The 488 Pista will undoubtedly be aimed at deep-pocketed petrol heads who want a car capable of daily commutes as well as daring circuit blasts.
No price has been confirmed for the model just yet, but expect to pay in the region of R3,5 million or more if you want – and can afford – one.
As the name suggests, it will be more at home on the track than pothole-riddled highway tarmac, and it’s on the circuit where many of the additions were honed.
That includes a new exhaust system, high performance parts in the 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 motor and more weaves of carbon fibre strewn across the bodywork – all of which have been lifted from the cars used in the 488 Challenge race series.
So have no doubts about it, the 488 Pista will be savagely fast.
