GONK – Now Open at the Fairmont Zimbali Resort

Gerhardt Oosthuizen and Kosie Nagel opened the original GONK in 2015. It had been a lifelong dream of theirs to have a little shop; a place where they could share what they love with others, and after assisting a friend in Clarens, Free State, to merchandise her store, they realized it was time to make their dream a reality. They felt it was time to share their finds, adventures, things they do and things they love – and GONK, the shop, was born.

Kosie studied hospitality management and worked in the travel industry signing contracts with airlines and tour operators and Gerhardt comes from an art background and worked in retail for many years as store designer, creative manager and visual and concept manager. In 2015 they realized that the time was right to take the big leap and leave the corporate world behind. After months of searching they found the perfect spot in  Linden, Johannesburg. In 2016 they opened their second store at Fairmont Zimbali Resort. The name ‘GONK’ is a combination of their initials – (G)erhardt (O)osthuizen and (N)agel (K)osie

IMG-20170705-WA0003Gerhardt and Kosie say:“It is our love of beautiful things, the love of shopping and of cause, the love for each other that ties it all together.”
