It’s fast becoming the place to meet in Ballito. The Ballito village at the edge of the sea has been making a comeback after several years of economic decline in the wake of the storm damage in 2007. With the beach in close proximity, it makes sense that a coastal themed restaurant would be a popular choice. The Beach Hut is a real gem – a delightfully fresh and informal setting just a stone’s throw from the beach with easy access and plenty of parking on Library Lane. This is at the heart of the Ballito revival and it’s where the best people gather for breakfasts, lunches, coffee breaks and, of late, relaxed dinners too. The food is honest, fresh and consummately prepared by internationally renowned chef and owner, Michael Ovens under the watchful eye of his wife, Joanna.
Michael has seventeen years of experience in acclaimed restaurants across the globe and has settled now to raise a family on the North Coast. This is a real win for Ballito, as so many have already discovered.
Michael and Joanna are uncompromising when it comes to quality in their restaurant – quality ingredients means taste and flavour…and delighted customers. They use the best suppliers and are happy to share that info with you.
We buy all our meat (except chicken) from Hope Butchery in Durban north, we chose them as our supplier due to the quality and passion they have for their product.
Their meat is free range, hormone free, antibiotic free and 100% grade A. One highlight is the 21 day aged Rump steak which has no MSG or preservatives in the aging process.
